What’s better than waffles? Whiskey toffee apple waffles! I’ve been playing a bit with sweet things lately since Marcel’s, SA’s leading frozen yoghurt brand, sent me a hamper with some of their goodies. I’m always a huge fan of anything vanilla but you don’t argue with the masses, so I decided to try their best-selling frozen yoghurt flavour instead – English Toffee.
What to do with frozen yoghurt in the middle of winter? Contrast it with something warm of course! So I caramelised some tart Granny Smith apples, and popped waffles in the toaster. To complement their English Toffee flavour, I made a classic toffee sauce, but added a warming kick of whiskey to it. Then I set about building the perfect waffle stack… Hot meets cold, velvety meets crispy, sweet meets tart. It’s an explosion of texture, temperature and flavour contrasts and a wonderfully naughty winter indulgence.
